My macbook has been/is a great computer. I'll probably never (never say NEVER) buy another PC for a long, long time that runs Windows. I can't explain it. It's just better in a lot of ways. Well....after 3 years of hardly any problems, my hard drive gave out. I should've expected it. I mean, I leave my computer on non-stop. I couldn't tell you the last time I turned it completely off.
Well...my hard drive finally gave out. My applecare was only 14 days out...so I was out of luck on warranty. So I called Apple Customer Service. They were AMAZING. I got great help. However, they told me that for them to fix it, it would be $320 + cost of new hard drive. What?!! I don't think so. I'd opt for a new computer before doing that. So....I ordered a new hard drive from macsales.com. Got a great deal on a new hd.
Also, I looked on Youtube for this video on HOW TO REPLACE A MACBOOK Hard Drive. It looked simple enough. So, on Friday afternoon my new HD came in. It took me all of about 5 minutes to take out the old hard drive, and install the new one.
I then called Apple, and they walked me through getting my computer back up and running. Fortunately, I backed up my computer not long ago. So, my computer, using the Time Machine built into my mac brought it back to where it was as of my last backup. (Dec. 15th, 2009). I didn't have to re-install any programs or anything. It was all there. AMAZING!! So, In about 45 min. time, I installed a new hard drive, and had all of my files and programs back in place on my computer. What a great ending.
Word of Wisdom: BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS!! You won't regret it. I'm glad I did!!
